Law Enforcement volunteers may be eligible to receive workers’ compensation benefits for industrial injuries. There is a requirement that injury was sustained while “on active duty.”
The following volunteers are covered:
Voluntary Police Officers are covered pursuant to Labor Code Sections 3362 and 3362.5.
Sheriff’s Reserve Deputies are covered duty pursuant to Labor Code Sections 3362, 3362.5, and 3364.
Any Person Assisting a Police Officer are covered when, at the request of such an officer, while engaged in active law enforcement service, or as a part of a posse comitatus or under the power of the county are covered pursuant to Labor Code Section 3366. Exception: Law enforcement officers regularly employed in an adjoining state who are temporarily deputized to work under the supervision of a California Police Officer.
State Fish and Game Reserve Officers are covered pursuant to Labor Code Section 3363.
